A Discount Rate Mortgage is where a lender reduces the rate payable to the borrower by discounting from a base rate (usually the Bank of England Base Rate or the company's SVR) at that time. The discount can be from 2 to 5 years in duration and is applicable during the term or period the mortgage product is effective. If the length of the Discount Mortgage product is relatively short, then the discount is normally lower than one with a longer period. Cashback Mortgages:

A Cashback Mortgage product is where a lender gives the applicant money back when they complete a mortgage or at regular intervals during the mortgage period. The actual amount payable to you will be decided within the constraints of the terms and conditions of the cashback mortgage product.

Base Rate Tracker Mortgages:
A Base Rate Tracker Mortgage works on the basis of tracking, at a set percentage above, below or equal to the Bank of England Base Rate. If the Bank of England Base Rate is 6% then a three year mortgage that is 0.5% above the Base Rate will start off at 6.5%. If the base rate moves during the three year period, the rate you'll pay will move at the same ratio of 0.5%. If the Bank of England Base Rate were to increase to 8%, you would pay 8.5%. If it dropped to 3%, you would be paying 3.5%.

Capital Repayment Mortgage or Interest Only Mortgage:
When home buying, there are two choices as to how you pay off your mortgage. Repayment mortgages are where you pay off the amounts of the loan each month and reduce the amount you are borrowing gradually during the term of the mortgage. Interest only is where a savings plan or other vehicle is used to save to pay off the total mortgage at the end of the mortgage term as a lump sum.
